SFC Dialogue丨Thai Former Deputy Prime Minister praises China's embrace of multilateralism

“Let’s use a metaphor. Over the past 30 years, globalization has been like a superhighway, with everyone moving in the same direction, and governments removing many obstacles to lay the foundation for faster progress. But future globalization may be a superhighway with many turns.” Don Pramudwinai, former Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Thailand, expresses some concerns about the future of globalization.

Don fully affirms China’s contributions to advancing globalization. He notes that over the 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, China has consistently connected with the world, cooperated with countries globally, and worked earnestly for the welfare of the international community. Thailand also supports the concept of globalization because it upholds multilateralism.

Don shares that he has visited China twice in his youth and witnessed China as it was back then. Seeing the changes in China today, he remarked, “It’s nothing short of a miracle.” He states that China’s achievement of becoming the world’s second-largest economy in such a short time is unique on a global scale. He also mentions that China’s vision of inclusive globalization, which covers multiple fields, will benefit countries worldwide.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, known as the “Golden 50 Years of China-Thailand Friendship.” When discussing China-Thailand cooperation, Don expresses that the mutual trust and respect between the people of the two countries will continue. He particularly highlights the increasing involvement of young people from both nations in bilateral exchanges, which he finds delightful and reassuring. “We hope to see current and future cooperation continue to advance. With joint efforts, the relations between the two countries will continue to flourish,” he notes.
